Mizune Masaki is a member of Masaki Village and a distant cousin of Tenchi Masaki. One of Seto's Ladies in Waiting, She, Otoka Masaki and Fuka Masaki work under Minaho Misaki.
History
Mizune is a native of Masaki Village, and the great-granddaughter of Yosho and his first wife Kasumi. This actually makes her the completely native member of the village with the most direct and purest bloodline to the imperial Masaki family. One Kajishima doujin translates this as saying she is the second oldest known living descendant of Yosho (second only to Minaho) but she treats others, like Akie and Kei, as elders, so it may be more of a case of her being the youngest daughter of a youngest daughter of her long-lived Masaki parents (meaning there could very well be older members with less direct bloodlines). However, she acts so immaturely that you would never guess her provenance, and she is completely unprepared for the possibility of being one of the most prominent members of Earth's Masaki royalty once Yosho's existence is revealed.
At some point she left Earth and joined the staff of Lady Seto, becoming one of her ladies-in-waiting, but returns to the Village at times. In fact, was living there when Kiyone Masaki and Nobuyuki Masaki met.
Mizune has returned to Earth to visit regularly enough that her cousin, Kai Masaki, recognized her immediately. She is also friendly with Seina Yamada, though she has been ordered to have no contact with him by Lady Seto, at least until his graduation.
In Minaho's sub-group, she is technically the leader and is capable but doesn't often act professionally.
Etymology
- Mizune's surname Masaki means "straight grain, spindle tree, (kokuji)" (柾) or "right, proper" (正) (masa) and "tree, wood" (木) (ki).
