Tenchi Muyo Wiki

Itoki is a character from the Tenchi Muyo spin-off Sasami: Magical Girls Club.

She is a witch from “The World of witches”. Her main role is of a messenger and magical girl trainer.

While we don’t know the life spans of witches in the Sasami: Magical Girls Club universe, we do know that they do age and that they are mortal as we saw many traditional witches that were stereotypical old ladies, and the oldest ones, like “the executives”, had to expand their lifespans trough unnatural means with magic. Therefore it’s safe to say that Itoki is a young adult, and among the youngest of the Witches regardless if witches age slower than humans or not.

She does not get along with Washu very well and she want to get her away from Daimon. This is mainly because she is jealous of Washu being so close to Daimon as they often work together as a duo. However, neither Washu nor Daimon seem to have romantic feelings for each other.

Given the two often bicker, Washu has gone so far as to punch Itoki out of annoyance.[1] On the other hand despite being vastly more powerful than Washu, Itoki has been far more forgiving. She hasn’t used her magic to seriously injure Washu, even when she had the excuse to do so after Washu had defected from the witches side.

Ironically, despite the fact Daimon is a mere storyteller, a powerless human working as a janitor, she fell completely in love with him. Besides being attracted to him, she says she also admires how smart he is.[2]

Given her airheaded personality, chipper and laidback demeanor, gluttonous tendencies, immaturity, and drunken behavior, it's easy to forget that Itoki is actually a very knowledgeable and powerful witch.

She was initially very loyal to the witches and their cause, even serving in the Chief Sorceress's inner circle and being privy to her plans. However, she eventually decided to betray the witches and fight the Chief Sorceress directly, joining Washu's faction to save humanity. As she explained, she was too much in love with Daimon, and her true loyalties laid with him. This decision proved to be a boon to the heroes, as Itoki has become an invaluable ally ever since. Even before her defection, she had helped Daimon and Washu by going easy on them, or giving them hints and clues. For instance she had let them flee on several occasions even when she could’ve easily stopped them with her magic,

Powers and Abilities

Itoki is by far one of the most powerful magic users we have seen in the Sasami: Magical Girls Club universe. She is a full fledged adult witch with full control of her magic and plenty of experience. And unlike most of their other aging witches she is still in her prime.

Power wise she was easily able to overpower the 5 members of Sasami’s Magical Girl Club forcing the girls to use their powers to try to survive her attack as facing her head on was not an option[1]. She was also able to match The Chief Sorcerress in magic when they clashed proving they were very close in power, if not equals[3]. And she was powerful enough to seal a weakened Keura. [4]

While magic users have access to a whole variety of magic spells, her magic speciality is the ability to control water. However her control over her speciality is far superior to those of magical girls as she was able to easily control enormous amounts of water, enough to flood the girls entire elementary school. Her control has such finesse she is able to make complex water constructs with her magic, such as trapping people in bubbles or even creating dragons made of water.[1]

Very uniquely she was shown to have the power of unaided flight, without enchanting an object like a broom.[4] She also has displayed the power of teleportation.[1]

Trivia

  • While Pixy Misa doesn’t appear in the Sasami: Magical Girls Club universe given Misao Shinohara never adopted that persona, in her abscense, Itoki is the one that resembles her the most personality wise. Just Like Pixy Misa, Itoki has a somewhat laid back and hedonistic personality, and both hardly ever take situations seriously. Despite both being antagonists they both act often in a goofy way for comedic relief. And they both often break the fourth wall for gags. For instance Itoki once sang the opening theme “Sweet magic” in a Karaoke, and the intro animation with the girls flying with brooms was shown behind her[2].
